To earn a degree from ETSU, there are specific course requirements put forth by ETSU, by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), by each college, and by each department. All students must meet the degree requirements at each of these levels. Here is the complete requirements for 120 hours to the Bachelor in Arts in Women's Studies. Listed below please follow the format for the Women's Studies portion:

REQUIRED CORE Each of the following:

  • WMST 2010-Introduction to Women's Studies (3 credits)
  • WMST 2020-Women in Global Perspective (3 credits)
  • WMST 3330-Feminist Thought and Practice (3 credits)
  • WMST 4500-Women's Studies Senior Capstone (3 credits)

WOMEN AND CULTURAL PRODUCTION One of the following:

  • ARTH 4117-Women Artists & Their Art (3 credits)
  • ENGL 3500 Women Authors (3 credits)
  • ENGL 4087-Themes in Women's Literature (3 credits)
  • ENGL 4290-Film Genres (3 credits)
  • PHIL 3110-Philosophies of Feminism (3 credits)

WOMEN'S HISTORY One of the following:

  • HIST 4237-Women in the Ancient World (3 credits)
  • HIST 4247-History of Women in U.S., Settlement to 1945 (3 credits)
  • HIST 4837-American Women Since World War II (3 credits)

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT One of the following:

  • SPCH 3346-Speaking for Social Change (3 credits)
  • WMST 4080-Women's Studies Internship (3 credits)
  • HDAL 4467-Leadership Studies (3 credits)
  • MGMT 4460-Leadership Studies (3 credits)

ELECTIVES Five courses Courses cannot be duplicated if already taken to satisfy other sections

ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION IN GRADUATION CEREMONIES
It is the policy of East Tennessee State University that only students who have completed their degree requirements participate in graduation ceremonies. There are two graduation ceremonies each year. May graduates attend the May ceremony. Students who finish requirements in any of the summer terms receive their diplomas in late August and are invited to attend the following December ceremony along with the December graduates.
