exciting projects and activities supported by the Center. (We are a
work in progress and new information will be added periodically.)
The Center of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Education is committed to fulfilling our stated vision:
To achieve excellence in mathematics and science education
at all levels, K - 16.
Center stands firmly on the belief that we can achieve excellence
in math and science teaching and learning as well as to help shape
public policy in math and science education, K-16. It is a
great thrill for us to have the active involvement of faculty
members from both the College of Arts and Sciences and the College
of Education involved in the work of the Center. This shows our
faculty commitment and dedication as we work to improve math and
science education at all levels.
The Center of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Educations continues to receive substantial grant support to help achieve its stated mission. These efforts are focused on reflecting the research on effective classroom learning and teaching, building content and pedagogical knowledge and skills and examining practice, using research-based methods that mirror those needed in the classroom; integrating math and science teacher professional development with local and state priorities, and continuously evaluating the effectiveness of our efforts.
East Tennessee State University has stood for excellence in math and science teaching and learning for several decades. I am extremely proud of the remarkably talented collegial members of our newly formed Center and I welcome you to get to know us better.
