Auditions for Instrumental Jazz Scholarships

 


 

The following audition information applies ONLY to SCHOLARSHIP auditions for Instrumental Jazz. 

Students who wish to MAJOR or MINOR in instrumental music must schedule a separate audition.

Instrumental Jazz Scholarships are open to all students, REGARDLESS of major!

 


 

 

Audition Date for Enrollment in Fall 2014:

  • Saturday, February 1, 2014

All auditions take place on the ETSU campus in the Mathes Hall Auditorium. A complete schedule for the audition day will be sent to you once your audition is confirmed.

 

Scholarships:

Two endowed scholarships are available for students participating in the instrumental jazz ensembles: Powell Jazz Scholars and Topalian Jazz Scholars. In addition, students will be considered for the Academic Performance Scholarship (APS) and the Public Performance Scholarship (PPS). Audition Repertoire:

Play the following two pieces:

  • Satin Doll (Swing, Aebersold Vol. 12 – Duke Ellington, Smart Music)
  • In a Sentimental Mood (Ballad, Aebersold Vol. 12 – Duke Ellington, Smart Music)

Recorded Auditions:

Recorded auditions are STRONGLY discouraged, and acceptable only for students who live 250 miles (or more) from campus. Please contact Dr. David Champouillon for further details about submitting a recorded audition.
