Blackman Bio

Dr. Mary Dave Blackman has been on the music faculty at East
Tennessee State University since 1997, when she came here to serve
as chair of the department. Since 2006, she has been back in the
classroom, teaching elementary music methods and introduction to
music (online and “live”). She is the online liaison
for the College of Arts & Sciences, providing support for
faculty and departments offering online courses and programs. She
also directs Buccaneer Brass, the basketball pep band. A
graduate of the University of South Carolina and the University of
Texas, she has served the profession in a variety of capacities,
including a term on the Board of Directors of the National
Association of Schools of Music and several years as editor of the
Utah Music Educators journal. She has recently been appointed
editor of The Tennessee Musician, the official journal of the
Tennessee Music Educators Association; she also writes educational
materials for the Johnson City Symphony’s children’s
concerts as well as program notes for all other JCSO concerts. She
plays French horn with the JCSO and spends her summers enjoying her
other passions, golf and travel.
