Welcome to East Tennessee State University and the Department of Music. Nestled in the mountains of east Tennessee and the Cherokee National Forest this is the perfect location and atmosphere to receive the outstanding education YOU deserve. The Department of Music, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, is located in Mathis Hall, one of the oldest historic buildings on any campus. Our music facilities include piano labs, studios, rehearsal/performance space, classrooms, smart practice rooms and numerous Steinway pianos. Additional performance venues are located in the beautiful Culp Auditorium on the ETSU campus, Memorial Theater on the Veterans Administration/College of Medicine campus, and our music library holdings are located in the state-of-the-art Sherrod Library. If you're pursuing a degree in music performance or music education ETSU has the program for YOU. Our ensembles have performed at state, regional and national levels and have traveled overseas. They include Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, brass and woodwind ensembles, Concert Choir, Men's and Women's Chorus and various smaller ensembles. ETSU music faculty are nationally recognized master educators and performers … scholars in their craft … recognized in the music industry … who will work closely with you in applied private lessons, classroom instruction, and ensembles to prepare you for your future careers.

The Tri-Cities area offers great opportunity to explore music. Knoxville, Charlotte, Asheville, and Chattanooga are all within an easy drive. The Tri-Cities area offers symphony orchestras, civic choirs, community bands and Broadway musicals increasing your opportunities for performance which are abundant in this beautiful area of the country.
