Department News Summer 2013


Kristen CampbellPhysics major Kristen Campbell is working this summer in the ETSU Dept of Physics and Astronomy with Dr. Beverly Smith on research involving X-ray images of interacting galaxies from the NASA Chandra telescope.




Hannah GreenePhysics major Hannah Greene is working in the ETSU Dept of Physics and Astronomy with Dr. Beverly Smith on multi-wavelength studies of star forming regions within interacting galaxies.





Joseph McnNeilPhysics major Joseph McNeil is working this summer with Dr. Richard Ignace on exoplanet light curves.






Matt CannonPhysics major Bryan Matt Cannon is working this summer with Dr. Gary Henson on stellar spectroscopy






Wedding Wedding Wedding Bev and Mark Physics graduate William Jamieson (Class of 2013) and Math major/Physics minor Jessie Deering (Class of 2013) were married June 8, 2013 at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama.   Dr. Robert Gardner from the ETSU Math Department served as the officiant for the wedding(second picture left).   Several other ETSU faculty attended, including Dr. Donald Luttermoser from Physics and Astronomy and Dr. Sandy Eagle from the Chemistry Dept (shown in 3rd picture from left), Drs. Beverly Smith and Mark Giroux from Physics and Astronomy (4th picture), Drs. Anant Godbole, Teresa Haynes, Robert Davidson, and Daryl Stephens from the Math Department.  Groomsmen for the wedding included Physics majors Bryan Matt Cannon and Brandon Sexton, while bridesmaids included Physics majors Olivia Miller and Erin Middlemas.  Physics major Chance Brown also attended. Recent Physics graduate Pashupati Shah (Class of 2013) is working at Oak Ridge National Lab this summer.

Moises Serrano Physics graduate Moises Serrano (Class of 2005) defended his Ph.D. dissertation on Friday June 21, 2013.    He is a graduate student in the Biomedical Sciences program in the Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU.  His thesis was titled `Novel Roles of RPA Phosphorylation in Cellular Response to DNA Damage'.




Chris CarverPhysics graduate David Chris Carver (Class of 2009) started work tthis summer as a Resident Physician at the Campbell Clinic for Orthopedic Surgery in Memphis Tennessee.  Chris obtained his M.D. at Quillen Medical School at ETSU in May 2013.
