Enrichment Activities

Honors-in-Discipline Program
Department of Physics and Astronomy
East Tennessee State University

Honors students are encouraged to join the Society of Physics Students (SPS), a social and educational organization for the enrichment of physics majors. As members of SPS, students enjoy social activities such as picnics or trips to hear talks given at other universities. Graduating honors students are encouraged to present their thesis at the ETSU Appalachian Student Research Forum or professional meetings, such as the meetings of the American Astronomical Society.  Honors students may also find their experiences include research trips to professional labs or observatories, such as the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy (SARA) observatory located at Kitt Peak, AZ. Honors students are strongly encouraged to apply to summer research internships at National Laboratories or other institutions.
