FasTrack

An Accelerated Premedical Program at East Tennessee State University

FasTrack is intended for students who already have a BA/BS degree, but who had not previously planned to apply for admission to a professional school. This program is targeted at those students who plan to apply to medical school, dental school, optometry school, veterinary medical school, pharmacy school, or other, and who need to do the neces-sary preparatory work as expeditiously as possible. Most liberal arts majors can complete this program in 15 months (Summer + Fall + Spring + Summer).

Medical and other health-related professional schools typically require four basic science one-year sequences including General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and General Physics - all with labs. These courses are routinely offered at ETSU during every term. Some schools may require (or strongly recommend) additional courses such as Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Genetics, Biochemistry, or others. In addition, many professional schools expect students to have a significant background in the humanities and social sciences. Such courses are readily available throughout the academic year.

The typical liberal arts graduate preparing for medical school might construct the following schedule:

  • 1st Summer General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, Pre-Calculus, Probability and Statistics

  • Fall Semester Organic Chemistry I, Biology for Science Majors I, Calculus I, humanities or other elective

  • Spring Semester Organic Chemistry II, Biology for Science Majors II or III, humanities, social science, or other elective

  • 2nd Summer General Physics I, General Physics II, electives, prepare for and take the MCAT, apply to professional school

An experienced academic advisement team is available to assist you in planning your program at every stage. For further information, contact:
