Fee Structure at the Behavioral Health and Wellness Clinic

Fees for Therapeutic Services: The fee structure for most services provided by our student clinicians at the Behavioral Health and Wellness Clinic (BHWC) is set on a sliding or discounted scale. This includes individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy. The fee is established by examining a client’s income and the number of people in the family. For our purposes, income includes earnings from all of the following: paid employment, student loans, disability payments, social security payments, and child support or alimony payments. If you are a dependent on another person’s tax return, then we calculate your fee based on that person’s income.

When you call the clinic to establish services, we will ask you questions about the nature of your problem to determine whether our training clinic would be a good fit for your needs. Then we will ask you about your income and the number of people in your household so we can estimate your fee for our services.

Proof of Income: In order to be eligible for our sliding scale, you will be asked to provide proof of income at your first visit. Proof of income includes your most recent tax return, pay stubs for the last two months, and bank statements for the last two months. Eligibility for the discounted (sliding scale) will be verified with these documents and will be re-verified annually.

Tennessee Board of Regents exception: If you are a student enrolled at a TBR institution such as ETSU or Northeast State, your fee for a therapy session (excluding the Intake Interview) will be a flat fee of $5 because your student activity fees have contributed to a general fund which provides some support of the BHWC.

Fees for Integrated Psychological Assessments: Effective November 1, 2013 the fee for all Integrated Psychological Assessments including psychological diagnostic assessments, learning disability assessments, assessments for developmental delays, and assessments for ADD or ADHD is a flat fee, rather than a sliding scale. Because such integrated assessments are not always covered by insurance companies, you will be asked to pay for your assessment in advance. If your insurance company reimburses us for the assessment a refund will be issued from us to you.

Payment for Integrated Psychological Assessments: Payment for Integrated Psychological Assessments must be paid in advance prior to the assessment being scheduled. Clients have the option of paying for their assessments in installments, but the BHWC will not send invoices in order for the client to do so. Once the assessment fee has been paid completely, the integrated assessment will be scheduled.  Please call the clinic to determine the cost for the Integrated Assessment.

Fee for Intake Interview:  Effective January 1, 2015 the fee for our Intake Interview will be increased by $15. This increase is to off-set the time and instruments that are utilized during the initial assessment period. This will be a one-time adjustment to the fee that is established by the sliding scale. For example, if the fee for psychotherapy would be $15 according to the sliding scale, the first visit would cost $30. Subsequent visits would return to the $15 level.

Faculty Practice Plan: Some of our licensed Psychologist supervisors also maintain private practices that they operate out of the clinic. Their fees are established by them and are not necessarily the same as the Clinic’s fees.

Insurance Plans Accepted: We are happy to file your insurance claims with the following insurances: BlueCare, TennCare Select and CoverKids. We are working to expand our contracts with other insurance companies.

Payment for services: Payment for services is expected at the time services are provided. We are unable to extend credit or establish a payment plan.

Methods of Payment: We accept cash, checks, credit or debit cards and IDBucs as methods of payment. If you have questions about our fees or payment options, please call the clinic at 423-439-7777.
