Undergraduate Student Experiences
Because this research group is concerned with questions in the real world, students in this research group often spend time in community-based settings (e.g., primary care or schools) when assisting with projects. In addition, because Dr. Polaha is a clinical psychologist, students are often offered the opportunity to observe or participate in a variety of clinical activities in addition to their research work. Students participating in " Research Group on Children's Behavioral Health in Rural Primary Care" get hands-on experience completing a wide range of research-related experiences including reading and discussing relevant literature, learning about the IRB process, helping to collect and enter data, running data analyses, conceptualizing results, and participating in the presentation of results. Most students are authors on poster or other conference presentations. Additionally, some have had the experience of writing up a manuscript for publication.
Independent Study Opportunities
Undergraduate students working with our research group must be enrolled for at least one independent study credit hour.Students interested in this opportunity usually participate in a semester-long interview. During the interview semester, the student is encouraged to come to all group meetings, speak up, and volunteer to complete tasks as needed.An invitation to participate in the group for independent study credit will be made upon completion of the interview semester if performance is evaluated positively.
