Sociology BA Requirements
A student majoring in Sociology (B.A., B.S.) must complete 30 credit hours of approved courses. In addition to maintaining an overall grade point average of at least 2.0 in the major, a student must earn a grade of "C" or above in each required course in the major.
Intensives: Students who enter ETSU as freshmen or with less than 50 transfer hours must take:
2 oral communication-intensive courses, of which 1 must be in the major
1 information technology-intensive course in the major
4 writing-intensive courses, at least 2 of which must be in the major and at least 2 must be at the 3000-4000 level.

SOCI 3210 Sociological Research (3 credit hours)
SOAA 3350 Social Statistics (3 credit hours)
SOCI 4057 Community Sociology (3 credit hours)
SOCI 4807 Modern Social Theory (3 credit hours)
SOCI or SOAA Electives (12 credit hours)*
*Students must choose elective courses in consultation with a sociology advisor.
The B.A. degree in the College of Arts and Sciences involves the following requirements (refer to catalogue for more information):
Foreign Language (6 credit hours)
1 course non-US history (3 credit hours)
MATH 1530, 1840 or 1910
