Let Your Colleagues and State Decision-Makers Know Social Work Matters

Participate in the 2012 Social Work Day on the Hill

March 28 in Downtown Nashville

What Is This Event?

Social Work Matters  is the 2012 theme for an annual legislative and policy event organized by NASW, Tennessee Chapter in coordination with University Social Work Programs across the state. This event, also referred to as Social Work Day on the Hill, is one of the most exciting and empowering programs offered to Tennessee social workers and social work students. Over 350 students and practitioners from across the state annually attend. The 2012 event is designed to:

  •        Train social work students and professionals about the importance of advocacy as a cornerstone of our profession

  •        Demystify the State legislative process

  •        Feature presentations by students and policy professionals

  •        Engage social work students and professionals in advocacy on key public policy issues being considered by the Tennessee General Assembly

  •      Increase the respect of State Legislators for the expertise and professionalism of social workers

  •        Strengthen legislative support for NASW-TN priority issues

  •        Provide an enjoyable educational and networking experience

When and Where Will This Event Occur?

The 2012 Social Work Day on the Hill will be March 28 on Tennessee’s Capitol Hill. We will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a continental breakfast with legislators.   This year’s program will be in the War Memorial Auditorium. The Auditorium adjoins the Legislative Plaza and is across from the Capitol in Downtown Nashville.

Will Students Be Involved In the Presentations?

Each social work program is invited to select a representative to present a Policy Poster & Presentation on a key state level issue for social workers on March 28. Some Universities may conduct campus competitions to select their policy poster presenter. The winner of the state Policy Poster Presentation will be selected by a panel of social work policy experts on March 28 and the winning school will receive a special plaque. Posters will be displayed in the Legislative Plaza where students can directly talk with legislators and others about their policy issue.
