Provenance: The Convocation Tapes were transferred to the
University Archives by Thomas Headley, Department of Communication, East Tennessee
State University (ETSU) on October 23, 1984. The tapes were opened for research
in December 1987.

is open for research.
Processing Information: Marie Tedesco completed processing
the collection in 1987.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
The Convocation Tapes consist of two tapes. Tape I includes one thirty-minute
"Omni Presents: Omniline Special Education 'The Power of the President',"
an interview with James L. Fisher, president of the Council for the Advancement
and Support of Education. Fisher discussed his book, The Power of the Presidency,
which revolves around the position of university presidency and its power and
functions. Also included on Tape I are remarks by President Ronald E. Beller,
ETSU, on the university's "Coming of Age" at the October convocation
held at the D. P. Culp Student Center. President Beller introduced Dr. Fisher,
who spoke on ETSU's coming of age, and its role in higher education, as well
as on higher education in general. Fisher's remarks continue on Tape II.
