ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION

Provenance: The Buccaneer Photographs were transferred to the archives on February 10, 1986 from the Buccaneer yearbook office by the yearbook's managing editor, Greg Walters.

Access: The collection was opened for research in March 1988.

Processing Information: M. Tedesco and C. Hardin completed processing the collection in 1988.

HISTORICAL NOTE

The Buccaneer is East Tennessee State University's yearbook. The name "Buccaneer" was adopted in 1937 and replaced The Chalk Line-Senior Edition, which was published from 1930-36. The senior edition of the Chalk Line had succeeded Old Hickory, East Tennessee State's first yearbook, which began publication in 1919 and ceased publication after the appearance of the 1929 issue. Cuts in funding attributable to the onset of the "Great Depression" were responsible for the demise of Old Hickory.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Buccaneer Photographs cover the limited time frame of 1984-86. Topics include, among others, sports, theater productions, graduation, and beauty pageants. Prints have been arranged in folders according to topic. The folders have been arranged alphabetically and placed in flat storage boxes.
