HISTORICAL NOTE

In the 1870's, M. B. Vance operated a business which supplied railroad ties and lumber for the area in section 14 of the East Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia Railroad. This railroad eventually became part of the Southern Railway System. At this time, no other information is known about Vance or the business.


SCOPE AND CONTENT

M. B. Vance's daybook provides a handwritten record of measurements of cord wood and cross ties for section 14 of the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad. The daybook records the date, individual's name, quantity and size of ties, and location for each transaction. The volume spans from May 31, 1870 to December 31, 1871.
