HISTORICAL NOTE
The Unicoi County, Tennessee Retired Teachers Association in 1984 embarked on a project to document the role of several prominent women in Unicoi County's history. With a grant from the Tennessee Committee for the Humanities, the association conducted interviews with relatives and friends of these women and produced a slide tape program on these women's achievements and contributions to twentieth-century Unicoi County. The project director was Hazel Gann, Unicoi County; project advisor, Joann Taylor, Greeneville, Tennessee; consultants, Cynthia Burnley and Judith Hammond, Department of Sociology, ETSU, and media consultant, Jane Headley. In 1986 ETSU's Omni Television program interviewed Hazel Gann and Cynthia Burnley about the project. Highlights from the slide/tape program also were shown.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The tape is a 30-minute Omni Celebration '86 program produced by the Division of Broadcasting, Department of Communication, ETSU. The host for this program was Laura James, and the guests were Hazel Gann and Cynthia Burnley. Mrs. Gann and Dr. Burnley briefly discussed the Unicoi County women who were the subjects of the retired teachers association project. Highlights of the association's slide/tape program also were shown. The woman who were the subjects of this study include Minta Carter, Jenny Moore, Elizabeth W. Roberts, Mamie Fuller Cook, Doak W. Bowman, Alma Broce, Kathleen Moody, Anna Brown Whitlow, and Pauline Vaughn.
