HISTORICAL NOTE
The Pike Hardwood Lumber Company was incorporated in Pikeville, Kentucky on October 2, 1905. E. R. Miller (Yale [sic], Ky), A. O. Springer (Lombard, Ky), Flora E. Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind.) were the company's original stock- holders and members of the Board of Directors. The company was established for the purpose of "buying, selling, and manufacturing of timber and lumber" products in eastern Kentucky. The first meetings of the stock holders and board of directors occurred on November 1, 1905.
During a meeting on November 28, 1905 the board of directors voted to purchase a sawmill that was located in Princess, Kentucky for two-thousand dollars. There are no further entries in the ledger regarding the company's operation beyond 1905. In the final ledger entry, dated November 28, 1905, there is a reference to the Princess mill that clearly states that it was already in operation and owned by the three stock holders. The final entry also states that the directors paid themselves two-thousand dollars from the Pike Hardwood Company capital stock funds.
