Biographical Note
Thomas Earl Anderson was born in the Siam community of Carter County, Tenn., near Elizabethton, on February 4, 1924. Anderson served in the Signal Corps of the United States Army between 1945-1947 and was stationed during part of this time in France and Germany. After attending electrical school in Chicago, Ill., he worked as an electrican and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. His work took him to many parts of the United States, especially in the Ohio Valley region. This included work on various Tennessee Valley Authority construction projects. He retired in January 1986. Anderson married Loraine Hodge on March 28, 1947. The Andersons' two children, Brenda Lynn Bacon and Thomas E. Anderson, Jr., both graduated from ETSU.
Scope and Content
The collection reflects Anderson's special interests in genealogy and local history and consists chiefly of the materials gathered in researching in these areas. Also included are 43 maps of the National Geographic Society that document many different parts of the world. Materials in the collection include newsclippings, family charts, genealogical notes, census information, correspondence, copies of material from reference sources, maps, and miscellaneous printed ephemera. While containing copies of documents from as early as 1894 (and perhaps earlier), most of the material in the collection is from the period of the 1950s-1990s.
