Provenance: The papers of the Model Valley Economic Development Corporation were given to the Archives of Appalachia by Shirley Ward of Clairfield, Tennessee, September 25, 1978.

The Model Valley Economic Development Corporation (MVEDC) was incorporated in Tennessee as a non-profit corporation on April 21, 1970.
The corporation aimed to combat economic deterioration and to promote social welfare and improve the delivery of social services in the general vicinity of the Clear Fork Valley of Tennessee and Kentucky and the Laurel Fork Valley of Kentucky. Counties covered included parts of Campbell and Claiborne in Tennessee, and Bell and Whitley in Kentucky. MVEDC maintained its principle office in Clairfield, Tennessee. Model Valley sponsored job retaining programs, provided legal services to individuals, established rural health clinics, and founded the Clairfield Pallet Company. Model Valley also helped residents become home owners by purchasing land and reselling it to local residents for homesites.
The Model Valley Economic Development Corporation (MVEDC) Collection consists of organizational documents, clippings, printed materials on the ninth annual meeting, and color photographs of MVEDC sponsored buildings.
Organization: The materials are organized into one series, with materials arranged alphabetically by document type. The folders are stored with the archives' Small Collections, Box 1. Photographs have been placed in an envelope and stored separately in the photograph storage area by accession number.
