This series contains the correspondence with the industrial agent of the Carolina,
Clinchfield and Ohio Railway at Johnson City between 1909 and 1925. The files
include inquiries about location of industries along the Carolina, Clinchfield
& Ohio; requests for analyses of minerals and ore deposits; location of
timber and water resources; farming possibilities; and land speculation. Examples
of advertising in local newspapers, trade journals, and participation in industrial
expositions are included. Also present is information on early development of
Johnson City, Kingsport, Spruce Pine, and Altapass, with discussions pertaining
to immigration possibilities as planned by the railroad and other developers.
