Series VIII, HOLSTON LAND COMPANY, 1916-1971, Boxes 193-206.
This series consists of correspondence pertaining to the land sales, land management, and land development by the Holston Land Company in the vicinity of the Clinchfield route from Elkhorn, Kentucky to Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Holston Land Company, also referred to as the Holston Corporation, worked very closely with the railroad furnishing them land for right-of-way, housing for employees, stations and maintenance yards, as well as land for industry along the route. Many of the Holston Corporation's employees were on the Clinchfield payroll, and the two companies had board members in common.

This series contains agreements, abstracts of title, correspondence, deeds,
reports, resolutions relating to Holston Land Company's stockholder meetings,
financing, sale of property and the construction of a coaling station and terminal
in Charleston, South Carolina. The records are arranged chronologically in a
single folder.

Second Addendum
Series VIII, HOLSTON LAND COMPANY, 1910-1971, Ledgers 2-25 and Box 360.
This series consists of payroll ledgers, general statement ledgers, cash disbursement
ledgers, cash receipt ledgers and one Hollinger box of loose consolidated balance
sheets of the Holston Land Company from 1910 to 1971. The series also includes
general ledgers and journals for the Norlina Construction Company and the Spartanburg
Land Company, two companies that did business with the Holston Land Company
during the construction and planned expansion of the Carolina, Clinchfield and
Ohio Railway between 1908 and 1958. The ledgers are arranged alphabetically
first by company name and then by ledger type. Each grouping of ledgers is then
organized chronologically according to the first date entered in each book.
The loose ledger sheets of this series are filed in a single Hollinger box that
is located at the end of the series. These records are arranged chronologically
according to the first date of each folder's span date.
