Provenance: The Anne W. Armstrong Collection was placed in the Archives of Appalachia by Dr. Marshall D. Hogan, a friend of Mrs. Armstrong's grandson, on March 15, 1981.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Anne Wetzell Armstrong was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, September 20,
1872. When she was very young, her parents, Henry B. Wetzell and Lorinda Snyder
Wetzell, moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. She lived there until she attended college
at Mount Holyoke, Massachusetts from 1889-1891. She married Robert F. Armstrong
in 1905. Mrs. Armstrong worked for National City Company in New York City from
1918-1919 and Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York from 1919-1923. She was the
first woman to speak before the Dartmouth and Harvard business schools. Among
her published works are The Seas of God, which she wrote in 1915, and
This Day and Time, in 1930. She died March 17, 1958 in Abingdon, Virginia.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Anne W. Armstrong Collection contains a copy of a typescript of an unpublished
manuscript entitled "Of Time and Knoxville, Fragment of an Autobiography."
The manuscipt recounts Armstrong's view of growing up in Knoxville in 1880s
and 1890s.
