BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

 

Dr. Colin F. Baxter is a native of Harrow, England. He received his undergraduate degree in history from East Tennessee State University in 1961 and earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in history from the University of Georgia in 1963 and 1965, respectively . He returned to teach history at his alma mater in 1971, becoming chairman of ETSU’s history department in 2002. He specialized in teaching British history and expanded his research and teaching interest into World War II history. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the national History Medal of the DAR, ETSU’s Distinguished Faculty Award, the East Tennessee Historical Society’s Teaching Excellence Award, and the Samuel Cole Williams Award from the Washington County Historical Association. He retired as chairman of ETSU’s Department of History in June 2008. He is married to Tamara Baxter and has one son, Andrew.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

The Colin F. Baxter Collection consists of 36 undated illustrated posters (mounted) documenting events during World War II such as the attack on Pearl Harbor, the war in Europe, the war in North Africa, and the war in the Pacific. The posters are arranged alphabetically by title first within Box 1 and then within the six oversized map folders.
