HISTORICAL NOTE

 

The ETSU Girls of Summer Chapter of Ya Ya Sisterhood consists of a group of women who became good friends while attending East Tennessee State University in the late 1940s and have continued their friendship over the years, especially through attending an annual summer reunion meetings usually hosted by fellow members of the group at locations around the South where the women now live. Members at the time of the 2002 meeting included Elmira Alison, Joan Cardwell, Irma Caton, Vivian Goldfine, Neta Johnson, Patsy Jones, Louise McBee, Rose Mary Long Moseley, and Joyce Shaw VanBenthuysen.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

 

The ETSU Girls of Summer Chapter of Ya Ya Sisterhood Collection consists of one scrapbook of the 2002 meeting of this organization at Opelika, Alabama. The scrapbook includes a membership list, essays, poetry, and miscellaneous writing, along with the group’s mission and induction ceremony. The scrapbook is filed in one folder and housed in Small Collections.
