This picture taken from the Edwards Photographs depicts a W.M. Ritter lumber yard from McClure, Virginia in 1937. The sawed lumber is sorted and stacked by type of wood, dimensions of the boards, grade of wood, and date of sawing. Notice the type of tracks in the picture... The set of tracks closest to the camera is the sawmill's tracks, used to transport the sawed lumber from the sawmill to the lumber yard, and some of the lumber yard's carts can be seen on the tracks on the left hand side of the photograph. The second set of tracks are probably the tracks that take the lumber to the railroad's loading area.
