This
photograph taken in 1927 shows a yellow poplar being cut with a crosscut handsaw.
The saw has handles on either side so that two workers can use it, which reduces
the amount of time necessary to cut the tree. The man on the far right is using
an axe to cut a notch in the tree. The notch determines which way that a tree
will fall, which helps keep the workers and the other trees in the area safe
from harm.
