The Encyclopedia of Appalachia

Books-In-Schools Project

The Center for Appalachian Studies and the University of Tennessee Press have developed a plan whereby public-spirited individuals and businesses can help make the Encyclopedia available to every intermediate school and high school in the Appalachian Region. Purchased in lots of 25 or more, the book will be discounted approximately 50 percent and shipped to school libraries. (The retail price of the book is $79.95.) A plate inserted in each book will acknowledge the donor, and donations are, of course, tax deductible. Approximate cost for one book, postage, and donor plate is $50.

While our first priority is to place the Encyclopedia in schools of counties designated by the Appalachian Regional Commission as economically “distressed,” donors may wish to help schools in their own counties and service areas.

If you wish to make a donation, click here to download the Encyclopedia-In-Schools donor form.
