2006 Governor's School for the Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage on a field trip to Roan Mountain. |
HERITAGE: Heritage is the way we commemorate our culture
through collective memory. It is more than just objects from the
past. It is practices that are handed down by tradition. It is buildings
and neighborhoods, archeological remains and exhibits in museums,
historical sites and community celebrations.
Approximately 30 rising high school juniors and seniors will spend
five weeks on ETSU's campus from June 3 to July 6, 2007.
At the Governor’s School for the Scientific Study
of Tennessee Heritage students will explore:
Students will earn six hours of college credit and a letter grade
in:
- History of Tennessee (HIST 2030): An intensive study of selected periods and topics in Tennessee history.
- Introduction to Archaeology
Students will also learn to flat-foot dance,
“create” fossils, dig for artifacts, take interesting
course-related field trips, establish life-long friendships, and
have the time of their lives!
