Textile Art from Southern Appalachia: The Quiet Work of Women

Kathleen Curtis Wilson, a research associate with the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services, investigates Appalachian women’s culture and traditional handicrafts. Her extensive study of hand-crafted textiles has culminated in this richly illustrated book, which highlights 44 overshot woven coverlets and two quilts from the Appalachian sections of North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia during the period 1830-1930. Profiles of 27 of the textile creators are included.
