If you decide to pursue a career nutrition and
foods, the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences
offers you two options: Nutrition and Dietetics or
Food Service Management. The Nutrition and Dietetics
option leads you to careers in general nutrition
education and nutritional product sales. After completion
of your degree, you might apply for a seven to twelve
month dietetic internship that will prepare you for
a career as a Registered Dietitian (RD). As an RD,
you can specialize in areas such as pediatrics, obesity/weight
management, oncology, renal, nutrition support, cardiac
care, long-term care, internal medicine or community
health just to name a few. Local, state, national
and international job opportunities are readily available
for you as a nutrition professional.
The Food Service Management option is a new and
exciting option at ETSU; this path offers you extensive
education, training and experience in all aspects
of food and beverage management. The study of food
service management combines business, science and
art to create a unique area of study. If you pursue
study in this area, you will be greeted with a wealth
of job opportunities in every corner of the world.
You may elect traditional jobs such as food/beverage
manager/director, or more exciting work in the area
of recreation and leisure such as working for theme
parks, resorts or for cruise lines. In addition,
you may choose to work in food design, supply or
