East Tennessee State University’s College of Business and Technology announces the appointment of Dr. Larry White as the John H. Poteat Chair of Banking and professor of finance.
As Chair of Banking, White is the director of the college’s Center for Banking. The center offers consulting services to the regional banking community, houses a library of banking periodicals and resources, and provides executive and management development programs. In addition, White is responsible for the development and delivery of banking coursework in the college.
“I am very pleased to have been selected as the John H. Poteat Chair of Banking at ETSU,” says White. “The Center for Banking serves as a resource to the region’s banking and financial services industry. My goal is to continue the good work that has been done to date and to expand on the activities of the center to demonstrate the value of such a program to the industry. By establishing a solid working relationship with our region’s institutions, I hope to make the classroom experience for our students more meaningful for their career preparation.”
Dr. Linda Garceau, Dean of the ETSU College of Business and Technology, said of the appointment: “Larry brings a wealth of experience with him to ETSU. He is a seasoned faculty member with a strong teaching and research record. Having worked as a banker and as the director of the Mississippi State Center for Banking, he has an excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities that face the industry today.”
White received his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia at Athens, where he also earned his doctoral degree in finance. He is a United States Navy veteran, who was recalled to active duty during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Before coming to ETSU, White held the Robert W. Warren Chair of Real Estate and served as director of the Management of Construction and Land Development Program at Mississippi State University, after 14 years as director of that university’s Banking Excellence Program.
White began his career in 1973 at The Farmers Bank in Georgia. He has taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Georgia, University of South Alabama, and Mississippi State.
Among his many teaching and service awards, White received the Ayres Fellowship from the American Bankers Association to attend the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, and, in 2000, he was named a Mortar Board Professor of Eminence. |
