Why Study Public Financial Management?
PUBLIC. ADMINISTRATION. GOVERNMENT.

Do you like numbers? Do you want to help to maintain the financial well being of our cities and regional governments? If you said yes, a career in public financial management might be for you. Financial managers are involved in quantitative tasks such as preparing budgets, evaluating potential capital improvements, tracking spending, and working with financial markets. Graduates often begin their careers as a budget analyst or management analyst, with a starting salary of about $40,000 per year. Within three years they are often eligible for promotion to senior analyst, with a salary of about $50,000. Career prospects look bright, as the supply of trained public financial managers never seems to meet the demand.

East Tennessee State University offers a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Public Financial Management.
