All Family and Consumer Sciences majors are required to complete one or more field studies and/or internships during their studies at ETSU.
Field Studies
Students complete 135 hours of on-site experience to gain additional expertise and exposure to the every day operations in the workplace of his/her professional field of study. The Field Studies site is selected by the student and approved by the student's academic advisor. The student works with the site supervisor to determine the educational objectives of the field experience. Field Studies are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters.
Internship
Merchandising and Interior Design (optional) students complete 135 hours of on-site experience to gain additional expertise and exposure to the every day operations in the workplace of his/her professional field of study. The internship site is selected by the student and approved by the student's academic advisor. Internships are offered during the spring semester.
Food Service Management students are selected through a competitive process for assignments in approved businesses of public-sector organizations as interns under the supervision of the internship coordinator. Students gain an understanding of top level management, financial management, and marketing functions used within the food service operation.
