The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers the following scholarships based on scholarship and professional potential:
Harryet S. Blackwell Scholarship
Amelia Brown Scholarship
Juanita W. Proffitt Scholarship
Vivian V. Rockwood Scholarship
NOTE: All scholarship applications are due by February 15th each academic year.
Harryet S. Blackwell Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership, and professional interest in the family and consumer sciences profession. The amount given with this scholarship is $200.
- Family and Consumer Sciences major
- Completed 60 hours by end of preceding fall semester
- Overall GPA of 3.0
- Active member in AAFCS-P/GS and TAFCS for at least one year
Amelia Brown Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to promote active participation in the Pre-professional/Graduate Student Section of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Applicants are judged on the basis of character, leadership, and professional interest in Family and Consumer Sciences. The amount given with this scholarship is $100.
- Family and Consumer Sciences major
- Completed 12 hours by end of preceding fall semester
- Overall GPA of 2.0
- Active member in AAFCS-P/GS and TAFCS for at least one semester and is a current member
Juanita W. Proffitt Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholarship and financial need, with preference going to candidates from Western North Carolina (Yancey, Madison, and Buncombe counties) and Northeast Tennessee (Washington, Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, Sullivan, Greene, Hawkins, and Hancock counties). The amount given with this scholarship is $200.

Vivian V. Rockwood Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a Kappa Omicron Nu (KON) member who is a rising senior with plans to attend graduate school or a current graduate student. The amount given with this scholarship is $200.
- Member of Kappa Omicron Nu
- Rising senior - submitting advanced study plans
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- Demonstration of potential for a successful career in Family and Consumer Sciences
