Most of our concentrations require hands-on learning, so our department has laboratories dedicated to the various areas. Labs allow students to practice and apply techniques discussed in the classroom as well as gain experience in the area of study.
The Merchandising Lab, equipped with state of the art computerized sewing machines is located in Hutcheson Hall - Room 107. This lab is primarily used by apparel and interiors merchandising students.
A Design Studio Laboratory is located in Hutcheson Hall - Room 111 and is available for use by interior design students. This laboratory is equipped with drafting tables and equipment for practice and applying interior design techniques.
There is also a Resource Room located in Hutcheson Hall - Room 108 that is available for use by interior design students as they prepare various design projects.
The Foods Lab is located in Hutcheson Hall - Room 110 and is used primarily by the Nutrition and Foods students and the Family and Consumer Sciences Education students. This lab is equipped with six standard kitchen units.
The department also offers a Computer Lab in Hutcheson Hall - Room 109 . The computer lab is open to all Family and Consumer Sciences majors. The computer lab is equipped and maintained with current software and hardware to facilitate students in the successful completion of projects, assignments, and presentations.
Some of the many software packages include, but are not limited to:
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Front page, and Access);
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Image Ready;
