Ms. Disque earned a B. A. in Literature from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1978. After getting married and starting a family of her own, she ran her own Family Child Care business for two years and was a substitute teacher in the public school system in Virginia. She then went on to receive her masters in Early Childhood Education from East Tennessee State University in 1997.
Her first work experience after completing her Masters was with Head Start as a teacher. Following her experiences with Head Start, she became the Orientation Specialist for the Tennessee Early Childhood Training Association (TECTA). Here she taught college level classes offered through Northeast State Community College to people working in Child Care Centers in 15 counties and supervised students seeking their Child Development Associate Certificate. Having this experience, she then became an instructor in The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at ETSU. She specializes in teaching Foundations of Early Childhood Education and Guiding Young Children and has also taught Infant, Toddler, and Child Development. Within the department, she serves as the advisor to the Pre-professional/ Graduate Section of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Association and as an advisor for the planning of the yearly FACS Department Honor's banquet.
Ms. Disque has presented on topics including reading with young children, and brain development and its implications when working with young children. Her special interests include children's literacy, guidance, and stress's effect on young children, how children deal with trauma, reading, knitting and horseback riding.
