Sarah Wilhoit earned a bachelor of arts in interior design from Freed-Hardeman University in 1987 and a master of science in interior design from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1998. She is currently pursuing a PhD in retailing at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mrs. Wilhoit teaches interior design courses in space planning, history, professional practice and field study. She is a professional member of the Interior Design Educators Council, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (NCIDQ certification # 022374), certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS), and a member of the Tennessee Interior Design Coalition.
Mrs. Wilhoit was an Assistant Professor and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Carson-Newman College from 1993 to 2006. She taught in the retailing and interior design program areas. She also served as interior design program coordinator and advisor to the interior design student organization.
Mrs. Wilhoit's professional experience includes both residential and commercial design. Design work consists of custom motor home/tour bus, residences, and higher education and commercial installations. Additionally, Mrs. Wilhoit owned and operated Sarah Wilhoit Designs from 1995-2001.
Current areas of teaching and research include historic preservation, sustainability and social responsibility among retailers at large and within the interior design industry.
