Dr. Amelia G. Brown graduated from East Tennessee State University (ETSU) (Yeah!!) in 1969 with a degree in Home Economics Education. She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1971 with a major in Food Science. A two year teaching stint at Virginia Tech convinced her that college teaching was her first love. She received her Ph.D. in Foods and Nutrition from Kansas State University in 1975. She then returned to Virginia Tech, where she taught until 1979.
In 1979, Dr. Brown returned to her alma mater, ETSU, as a faculty member. From 1982-1995 she served as Department Chair for the Department of Applied Human Sciences. In 1996 Dr. Brown moved to the Dean's Office where she served as Associate Dean for the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST). In that position, she was in charge of college curriculum matters and the CAST Honors in Discipline program.
Dr. Brown is currently (since 2002) the Associate Dean for Articulated Programs for ETSU. In this position, she works with fifteen partnering community colleges on more than 280 articulation agreements. She also works with the Transfer Advisory Council and other university entities on transfer issues.
Dr. Brown teaches Corporate Etiquette, a course that she developed, online through the Regent's Online Degree Program. She previously taught in the food science area.
Feeling strongly about her contribution to professional organizations, Dr. Brown has served as President, as well as other offices, for the Council of Administrators of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has received numerous honors including the CAST Outstanding Teacher Award. Dr. Brown is certified in Family and Consumer Sciences.
