Dr. Lewis completed her undergraduate studies at Middle Tennessee State University receiving a B. S. degree in Human Sciences with an emphasis in Consumer Services in 1984 and a second B. S. degree in Home Economics Education in 1987. She also completed her Masters degree at MTSU in Vocational Technical Education in 1996. Her Ph.D. was completed in Human Ecology with a concentration in Retail and Consumer Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in August 2003. Dr. Lewis is certified in Family and Consumer Sciences.
Dr. Lewis was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN from 1998-2004. She taught in the Family and Consumer Sciences program area. She also served as the PGS Advisor for the MTSU student section of AAFCS from 2000-2004. Dr. Lewis served as the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society adviser and co-adviser from 1999-2002.
Prior to joining the Human Sciences Dept. at MTSU in 1998, Dr. Lewis served as the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Consultant at the Tennessee State Department of Education and FCCLA State Adviser from 1996-1998. She also spent 6 1/2 years teaching secondary family and consumer sciences in Alabama and Mississippi.
Dr. Lewis served as the 2002-2003 President of the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has served as the Counselor for the 2003-2004 TAFCS Board and the Nominating Committee Chair. Dr. Lewis has also served as District Chair and State Convention Co-Chair for TAFCS. She is currently an active member on the AAFCS Membership and Marketing Committee. She began serving on this committee in 2002.
Dr. Lewis received the Middle Tennessee State University 2002-2003 Outstanding Teacher Award for excellence in teaching. In 1994, she was awarded the Governor of Alabama Golden Apple Teacher Award. She was recognized as the 1993 Alabama Vocational Association District Vocational Home Economics Teacher of the Year and the 1991 Alabama Home Economics Association District Home Economics Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Lewis's areas of teaching and research include Family Resource Management, Consumer Economics and Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
