Deborah Leachman Slawson received her doctorate in educational research methodology and statistics from the University of Memphis. She is also a Registered Dietitian with expertise in school and community–based health promotion planning and evaluation. She brings several years of experience as a school district administrator for the Youth Risk Behavior Survey and evaluator for Coordinated School Health programming. In addition, her experience of serving as a district–wide coordinator for Memphis City Schools' Coordinated School Health Program has given her unique insights into the processes of planning, initiating and promoting a coordinated network of health–related program components within a large urban district.
Dr. Slawson is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at East Tennessee State University. She is the author of several peer–reviewed journal articles, and serves as a reviewer for three journals. In addition, she has produced numerous technical reports related to her work in educational program evaluation, and has lectured extensively on such issues as health programming in the schools, educational reform models, and research design and methodology issues.
