Dr. Nancy Nehring, Associate Professor, earned B. S. and M. S. degrees in Home Economics Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1972 and 1977. Following twelve years of experience with the USDA/Cooperative Extension Service in Wisconsin, she completed a Ph.D. in Housing, Interior Design, and Resource Management at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (1993). Dr. Nehring teaches interior design courses and serves as coordinator of the interior design concentration. She also serves as advisor to the ETSU Student Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers, an active professionally oriented student organization.

Dr. Nehring's expertise is in the areas of design/human behavior, space planning, historical interiors, and AutoCAD. Her research interests include the effects of built environments on occupant/user behaviors and the introduction of new technologies into the classroom. She was one of the first participants of the Faculty Leadership in Technology program at ETSU.

Dr. Nehring is a certified professional member of the Interior Design Educator's Council and is certified as an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers. The National Council on Interior Design Qualification also certifies her. Dr. Nehring has designed numerous free-lance projects in both residential and commercial design. She has been involved in historic restorations and rehabilitations of older buildings and has worked with a builder on turnkey operations and major renovations.

Recent excellence in teaching awards and Advisor of the year award-all initiated by students (2003, 1997, and 1992), have recognized her dedication to the students in her classes.
