The Consumer Studies option in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at East Tennessee State University provides students an opportunity to study all content areas of family and consumer sciences, including child and family studies, interior design, merchandising, nutrition and foods. The comprehensive curriculum emphasizes decision-making skills, problem solving techniques, effective communication skills, computer literacy, and professional education. The Consumer Studies option prepares individuals to assume positions where they work closely with families and individuals to help them develop decision making skills that improve the quality of life. The consumer studies option prepares students for employment opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally. Upon completion of the program, the student receives a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
