The Family & Consumer Sciences Education option in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at East Tennessee State University provides students an opportunity to graduate with all the requirements necessary to become a licensed Family and Consumer Sciences educator, grades 5–12. Students have numerous opportunities for leadership development, teamwork, community involvement, on-the-job observation and field study experience. Students can study all content areas of family and consumer sciences, including child and family studies, interior design, merchandising, nutrition and foods. The comprehensive curriculum emphasizes decision-making skills, problem solving techniques, effective communication skills, computer literacy, and professional education. The curriculum also includes a minor in Teacher Education.
