An Interior Design Concentration in the Bachelor of Science Degree Program through the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences provides today's design industry with professionals skilled in creating life-enriching environments, for a variety of situations. Both a major and a minor are available under the interior design concentration.
We strive to develop excellence in leadership, design, aesthetic, technical, and communication skills
among tomorrow's design professionals. In-depth study of design is made possible with dedicated lecture
and studio classrooms, computer labs, an extensive catalog and sample collection, and dedicated workstations
for advanced students.
Educational Opportunities:
Faculty from a variety of backgrounds and academic departments provide diversity and contribute expertise
in Art, Interior Design and Textiles. Practicing professionals contribute their expertise by teaching advanced
design courses. Student exposure to national and international cultural experiences is gained through field trips
to world exhibitions in Atlanta, Chicago and High Point, N. C.
Program Accreditation:
We are currently working toward CIDA accreditation. Interior Design programs accredited by the Council for
Interior Design Accreditation are recognized as meeting minimum requirements set forth by the accrediting
body. For more information on CIDA visit their website.

ETSU Interior Design Advisory Board:
An Interior Design Advisory Board has been assembled to assist the ETSU Interior Design program toward
accreditation efforts. Board members consist of students, faculty, alumni, and practicing professionals
associated with the field of interior design or interior design related industries. Board members support
the program through curriculum advisement, student mentorship, student internships, juroring student
presentations, organization of alumni/student events, professional development, fund raising, networking,
and recruitment of new board members.
Advisory Board members organize our annual Interior Design Showcase. The showcase highlights interior
design student work at all levels. The showcase provides an opportunity for Advisory board members and
local professionals from the interior design, architecture and the construction industry to view and
critique student work. To view student work of a recent Showcase, click this
