The Nutrition and Dietetics concentration provides students with a four-year program that culminates in a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. The program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide general nutrition education to individuals as well as to community groups. The undergraduate program in dietetics is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of The American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Students wishing to become a Registered Dietitian (RD) will need to complete an additional six to twelve month internship following the Bachelor of Science degree. Completion of an accredited dietetic internship will allow students to become eligible to take the national Registration Examination for Dietitians. Successful completion of the registration examination will allow the student to use the title "Registered Dietitian" (RD). Becoming an RD allows the student to do nutritional assessment, diet prescription/instruction as well as group and individual nutrition education.
Local, state, national and international job opportunities are available for nutrition professionals.
