The Master of Arts in Teaching
(MAT) program is designed for students who have obtained a
bachelor’s degree
in a field other than education and are not
eligible for teacher licensure.
The
MAT program is planned to meet
teacher licensure requirements at
the graduate level in the
state of Tennessee.
Students have the option of
entering the Elementary
MAT program that covers K-6 licensure or the Secondary MAT program
that covers 7-12
licensure in biology, chemistry, psychology,
sociology, physics, earth science, economics, English, ESL, German,
Spanish,
French, geography, history, government, speech
communication, mathematics, and vocational home
economics (5-
12
licensure). Licensure at the K-12 level in physical education, art,
theater, and health
is also
available. The program duration is
planned for approximately 5 semesters.
