What is TECTA?
The Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance is a statewide training system based upon the belief that early childhood education personnel
need professional knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for young children. It represents the first statewide early childhood training
and professional recognition system in the nation.
TECTA provides FREE 30-hour Orientation training classes. These Orientations are approved by DHS and meet annual training hour requirements. Also, DHS counts the 30-hours of training for 2 years of training hours.
Who is eligible to take an Orientation?
All childcare providers who are employed in a licensed family or group home or licensed childcare center in Tennessee are eligible to participate.
What types of Orientations do you offer?
Orientation classes are offered for center-based (ages 3-5), infant/toddler (birth-3), school-age, administrator and family home childcare providers. Participants choose one type to attend.
Where are Orientations offered?
Classes are offered at various locations in our 15 county service area: Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington. Please see the schedule for exact locations for this semester.
How do I register for an Orientation?
Fill out an Orientation Enrollment Form and mail or fax it to the ETSU office. Click on the link below to access the current Enrollment Form and Orientation Schedule. Classes are based on space availability; on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Do I have to complete all 30 hours?
Only students who complete all 30 hours of training will receive a TECTA Orientation completion certificate. Hours can be used for the DHS continued annual training requirements.
Why should I attend a TECTA Orientation?
By completing a TECTA 30-hour Orientation, students are eligible to receive tuition assistance from TECTA to attend college level courses at an area community college. Students may receive scholarship money to apply for their CDA. Also, completing a TECTA Orientation provides the student with the knowledge needed to provide quality childcare, thus improving their star rating in the areas of professional development and program assessment!
Mail or fax your completed Enrollment Form to the ETSU-TECTA office by the registration deadline.
