Introduction
This program is designed for people who are already licensed to
teach in the elementary grades. People who hold a Tennessee
teaching license in an area other than elementary teaching can work
toward an elementary teaching license (at the same time they are
working toward an M.Ed.) by taking specified electives and meeting
some additional requirements. Anyone wishing to add the elementary
endorsement to an existing teaching license is urged to contact the
ETSU Certification Analyst, Angela Murray, at 423-439-7562 or
murrayp@etsu.edu.
Persons who are not already licensed teachers, and who have
completed a bachelor’s degree in a field other than education, may
be interested in the M.A.T. program. Both the elementary and
secondary M.A.T. programs lead to teacher licensure. The M.A.T. in
Elementary Education Program Coordinator is Dr. Aimee Govett
(423-439-7678 or
govett@etsu.edu)
Degree candidates entering the Master of Education in Elementary
Education program are required to meet with the chair of their
advisory committee to plan the sequence of the required courses
leading to the degree. They must successfully complete the required
core, professional development, and content courses for the
program. Assessment of candidates occurs throughout the program.
Additionally, degree candidates must complete a final oral
comprehensive examination that includes a presentation of their
professional portfolio. Specific program requirements are presented
below.
