To register for Praxis exams please see
Educational Testing Services (ETS)
All elementary, middle, and secondary MAT students must take certain PRAXIS exams to obtain state licensure. All required exams must be passed prior to student teaching! You will not be eligible to student teach until you have passed all PRAXIS tests.
All MAT students are required take a Praxis II test from the PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING AND TEACHING (PLT) group. Candidates choose PLT K-6, 5-9, OR 7-12, depending on the grade levels of initial licensure. (K-12 licensure candidates may choose any of these.)
Remember, in order for us to recommend you for a Tennessee teaching license, we must have your report of scores directly from the Praxis Series Services. To avoid an additional fee to have scores sent to us, designate East Tennessee State University, College of Education, Recipient Code #1198, as one of your score recipients when you register for the tests.
In addition, we suggest that you designate the Tenn. Dept. of Education, Recipient Code #8190. The Tennessee Department of Education cannot accept score reports that do not have social security numbers. This requires that you enter your social security number in the test registration.
PRAXIS II Test Information for Middle and Secondary is available here.
More detailed information about the Tennessee Praxis requirements can be found at the Tennessee Praxis website, and additional information concerning Tennessee passing scores on Praxis II tests can be found here.
It takes about 1 month to receive your scores, so please leave enough time to receive your PASSING scores. Submit a copy to Cindy Lucas in Room 321 Warf-Pickel Hall and to the TEML Office 417 Warf-Pickel, Hall in order to be eligible for student teaching.
Although you select ETSU (code 1198) as a recipient, the scores do not come directly to the TEML office or to Cindy Lucas. IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT THEM TO CINDY LUCAS, YOU MAY NOT RECEIVE A CONFIRMED STUDENT TEACHING PLACEMENT.
