About the Department

Welcome to the Department of Human Development and Learning (HDAL) web site. This site provides information about undergraduate and graduate programs of study, members of the faculty and staff, course descriptions, and access to faculty web pages.

Mission of the Department

The mission(s) of the Department of Human Development and Learning are to collaborate and develop articulation agreements with 2-year institutions; expand distance learning through ITV and increasing appropriate offerings of on-line and web-enhanced courses; develop collaborative (including co-teaching) arrangements with HDAL programs and other college and university departments/programs, (e.g., CUAI, ELPA, Psychology, FACS, Speech/Comm. Disorders); expand and improve the community counseling clinic; increase acquisition and support for obtaining external resources (grants) throughout the department; engage in national recruitment; increase size and diversity of student body; increase the diversity of faculty and staff; focus on retention of students; continue to provide excellent instruction in Early Childhood, Foundations of Human Development and Learning, Special Education, and Counseling; ensure placement of students in productive training sites; enhance commitment to faculty development; keep Continuous Improvement as a focus; and implement more effective Student Performance Assessment and Program Evaluation and Planning.
